AI pixel art generator for game sprites

Describe what you want — “a tiny knight with a red cape”, a 16×16 potion bottle — and Tsubu drafts a grid-true, transparent sprite you can actually edit, animate and export. It's AI-assisted and human-refined: the generator gets you a strong first pass, and every pixel stays yours. Free for early adopters, right in your browser — sign in with Google.

From a prompt to a grid-true sprite

Type a description, pick a canvas size like 16×16 or 32×32, and the AI drafts a sprite built for a game — readable silhouette, limited palette, clean edges and a transparent background — instead of the downscaled, off-grid blur generic AI tends to produce. Treat it as a strong first pass, not a finished asset.

Real pixels, not a flattened image

The generator writes real, editable pixels straight onto the canvas — not a flattened JPEG. Every cell is yours: pencil, eraser, fill, eyedropper, select & move, a proper palette workflow and a checkerboard transparency view, on grids up to 256×256. The AI hands you the first pass and you do the finishing, so it stays AI-assisted and human-refined.

Animate an existing sprite with AI

Already have a sprite? Ask the AI to animate it — it drafts frame-by-frame motion (walk cycles, idle bobs, attacks) onto the timeline, where you can retouch any frame and play it back at a pixel-friendly 8–12 FPS. Uploading a sprite to animate is common across these tools; here the difference is that every frame stays editable pixels, not a locked clip.

One loop, one browser tab

Generate, edit, animate and pack a sheet without leaving the page or stitching three apps together — the prompt box, the pixel canvas, the timeline and the sheet exporter are the same studio. Plenty of tools bundle these steps; Tsubu's bet is on how tightly they connect and how editable the result stays end to end.

Export to PNG, GIF or sprite sheet

Ship your sprite as a scaled PNG (1×–8×), an animated GIF, or a packed sprite sheet with a JSON atlas that drops straight into Unity, Godot, Phaser and Pixi.

Free during early access — no credit meter

AI usage is sponsored by the platform during early access, so there's no per-generation credit cap — a limited-time launch offer, not free forever. For contrast, each of the named integrated tools we checked in July 2026 gates its AI: Sprite-AI gives 15 free generations, SpriteLab 25 credits plus 5 a day, and Sprite Fusion has no free tier ($9–49/mo). Genuinely free generators do exist, so the point isn't that free is rare — it's a whole editable loop you don't have to meter, for now. No credit card; sign in with Google.

AI you can account for

AI here is opt-in, and because the output is real editable pixels you finish by hand, it's AI-assisted and human-refined — never raw AI passed off as done. On training data and provenance, the honest answer is that the wider generative-art field hasn't settled it, and we'd rather flag that than wave it away; Tsubu keeps what the model drafted separable so you can disclose exactly what was AI-assisted.
